Wayne Thiebaud book to accompany the exhibition "On View October 1-November 21, 2014" from 2014

Wayne Thiebaud (1920 - 2021) is an American painter widely known for his luscious handling of paint and brilliant, colorful palette in works depicting commonplace objects that combine sensuousness, nostalgia, and a hint of melancholy. Thiebaud is associated with the Pop Art movement because of his interest in objects of mass culture, although his early works, executed during the 1950s and 1960s, slightly predate the works of classic Pop artists. He uses heavy pigment and exaggerated colors to depict his subjects, and the well-defined shadows characteristic of advertisements are almost always included in his work. Artworks by Thiebaud are included in the collections of many of the most prestigious museums.
