ABOUT THE ARTIST:

Lu Kynn is a Portland, Oregon based collaboration between artists Alicia Decker and Elissa Breitbard. The Lu Kynn duo create contemporary textile pieces using cotton, hemp and linen fabrics that are hand-dyed and sewn together—often spliced with repurposed fashion and interior design remnants. Bold colors, rich textures, unique patterns with an emphasis on hand-made, “slow” textiles bring depth to Lu Kynn’s work. Their inspiration is rooted in the environment, the land, and the lives connected by threads of the art itself.

Alicia Decker is a Fiber Artist, Textile Designer and University Educator with 20 years of experience working in the fashion industry. Her work has been shown both nationally and internationally and involves storytelling through textiles—implementing the power of cloth to express identity and human connection. Alicia is a PhD candidate researching textiles as a means for social justice and is on the Board of Directors of the Surface Design Association.

Elissa Breitbard, a self-taught artist, has a decades-long passion of textiles—including academic/cultural studies of Indonesian and Southwestern textiles, as a long-term Board Member of an ethical US soft-goods factory, and as owner of a digital textile print studio. She hand-dyes fabric out of her backyard and has a certificate in Sustainable Fashion from the Copenhagen School of Business.
